FAREWELL, MEXICO!

March 19, 2018

Well, all good things trips do actually have to come to an end, and we were at the end of a glorious Mexican viaje. On our last morning in Mexico City, we had time to eat one more incredible breakfast, this time at Casino Español. I can't get enough of the chocolate milk in Mexico, and the fruit plate was fresh and yummy (even the papaya, which I am trying to make myself like, wasn't too bad).

I had an egg, beef steak, nopales (cactus), and beans:

Bob had red chilaquiles with a beef steak:

The restaurant is in an exquisite building that was was constructed in 1903-1905 to house a club created in 1863 by a group of prominent Spaniards living in Mexico City who wanted a place for members of the Spanish colony to meet. The building is still used as a place for cultural development. The restaurant is on the top floor.

We didn't have much of a plan, so we just wandered about, stopping for a bit of shopping at the Mercado de Artesanias la Cuidadela, a local handicraft market.

We admired a few more statues, and then we caught a cab to CDMX, the Benito Juarez International Airport.

We had some time to kill at the airport, so we wandered around and enjoyed the special art exhibit entitled Los Viajeros, or "The Travelers." For more about the artist, Rodrigo de la Sierra, go here.

This one is my favorite:

Of course we made time in our schedule and space in our tummies for just a few more bites of Mexican food. Even the airport food is delicious. I should have skipped this last indulgence, however, for I think it was at this time that my camera was either lost or stolen.  I had used it just before we ate, and that's the last I saw of it.  (Pictures on this post are from my cell phone.)

I am so glad that we finally made it to the heart of Mexico and to the Gulf of Mexico. I've finally converted Bob to the wonders of the country.

He's even been back WITHOUT me in the care of our nephew John, son of our excellent tour guide Arnold.

¡Hasta la vista, Ciudad de Mexico!
Until we meet again!  (But next time we will lose ten pounds BEFORE we visit.)

  1. So the question is when do we go back? There a lot more destinations out there. I have been studying up on the Purepecha tribe, they were one of the native tribes in Michoacan that stood up to the Aztecs. Also Michoacan is known for ice cream, I am sure you have heard of La Michoacana, there a lot of them here in CA.

    1. Yes, we have two La Michoacana ice cream places within a few miles of us, one in Redlands and one in Yucaipa. I'm game for a trip to Michoacan!
